Your Ableton Live Studio 1st first edition Text Only Chris Chris Buono Buono Books

Like some others here, I'm a computer tech who has taken up digital music production as a hobby. Ableton Live's Intro came with a little Korg NanoKey I got to mess around with, and I got hooked.

There are tons of great tutorials online, about how to do wonderful things with Ableton Live, but not much about how to set it up, what gear you might need, and how to set up a home studio. This book provided those answers, in an easy to access manner. I've read complaints from others here about the lack of in-depth Ableton information in this book- but to be honest, the title tells you what the main thrust of the book is about- the studio. There is a good overview of the software- enough to whet my appetite and get me messing around with it for hours.

There is practical advice in this book about equipment, room treatments, and digital basics. I now know what to budget for, and strive towards. Even if you are not running Ableton specifically, this book will provide you with some great advice for your home studio.

Your Ableton Live Studio 1st first edition Text Only Chris Chris Buono Buono Books Reviews

I purchased this book, and because it doesn't just go through the program itself, but all of the things about producing and mixing music. It is a fantastic piece, and I learned a lot about the program and the hardware I would likely need to use it effectively. That being said I am not giving it five stars, because I wish the actual part about the program was longer. It went through a lot of things, and I did learn a lot, but not quite as much as I had hoped. Still it is a good book with a lot of relevant information. A must buy!
I have been using Ableton Live for a while and was looking for a book to give me details about how to use it better. This book not only covers how to get the most out of Ableton Live thoroughly but it also addresses questions I had about how to properly set up my home studio. If you need a book about Ableton Live this is a great one to add to your library!!
Before reading this book, I had a very basic recording set up; a small condenser mic, a guitar and amp, and my CPU. Now, I have added a synthesizer, a few MIDI controllers, and a DJ controller for mixing. I plan to add on with a recorder and some VST plug ins. Thanks to this book, I have a better idea as to how I want to set up my home recording studio. My only criticism is a lack of explanation in how to use the software, but I have not completely read the book, so that info might simply be closer to the back.
For a book about Ableton, it sure takes a long time of reading before the first chapter (chapter 4) that's REALLY about Ableton.
Being a computer nerd and already familiar with home studio set up and peripherals (as the book describes them, "must-haves") the first hundred pages were a waste of money. Then again, I thought the book to be a good price. I'm not so sure now.

If you're an intermediate or higher and want to jump right in, you'll have to jump to page 99. I'm not sure how I feel about that. That's 1/3rd of the book being skipped.
If you're a beginner, and don't know ANYTHING about computers, setting up your own home studio this book is perfect for you. I think that this book tries too hard to be for EVERYONE and be a one size fits all guide.

Just beware!

That said, I've still yet to finish the book. My opinion might change... but I feel it's worth it for people to know this. )
I agree with the other review that there is very little Ableton Live in this Ableton Live book. I'm torn on how to review this book though because it is a great book if you area brand spankin newb. For someone just now starting out in music production with very little knowledge of the usual gear needed and you have a typical home pc computer that you bought at a local store and want to dive into the world of music production then this book is excellent. It covers computer specs, types of microphones, DI boxes, types of headphones, etc. The author does not go over board in saying get this get that rather he suggests things you will need to acquire as time passes and shows you how to take it step by step at your own pace. what you need first and why. I bought it in hopes of filling up any small gaps of information that I had but found it leaving me personally wanting more. Anything I came across could have been easily summed up by a Google search. If you want a good starting book on ableton live but have not gotten the software yet, you can download the uesr manuals from ableton for free online. I easily found the pdf manuals for both the full size live 8 version and the lite version on Ableton's website. That or download the demo's as they are part of the install as well. The manual's are excellent and not your typical expected drap reads. I would suggest starting there and working through the tutorials that are inside the program under help as well rather then get this book. That is unless, as I've mentioned, you are just now starting out with a home studio and need a primer on all aspects found in one. The author recommends reading the power series book next, which I wish I would have gotten instead.
The book is really more geared for Ableton 8 than 9 which it's close enough but they should say that on the front of the book and or in the description. It's a little too basic for me but it's a fun read regardless.
Great for entry/beginner level Abelton users. I had never used a DAW before Abelton. One the day I purchased Abelton I also ordered this book. It was a life saver once it arrived. It gave me step by step information on what to do and how to get my first DAW (Abelton) up and running. Everything from studio and room prep to information and prep to do on the computer end. Great book. If you're getting into Abelton and dont know much about DAWs you need this book.
